Bandera ISD is proud to announce the hiring of Bruce Stafford as the new Head Coach for the Bandera High School Boys Basketball Program.
Coach Stafford brings with him 12 years of teaching and coaching experience, most of which was spent at Fredericksburg ISD. A retired military officer with an extensive leadership background, Stafford has dedicated his life to service—both to his country and to the student-athletes he mentors.
During his time at Fredericksburg, Coach Stafford helped guide multiple teams to postseason success across basketball, football, and golf. On the basketball court, he was part of a staff that made six playoff appearances, earning two district championships and advancing to the area round twice. He also contributed to one of Fredericksburg football’s most successful seasons with a trip to the fourth round of the state playoffs in 2021, and helped several boys and girls golf teams reach the state meet.
Coach Stafford’s impact extends far beyond athletics. During his decorated military career, he led elite security and operations teams across the globe, including serving as Officer of the Deck aboard aircraft carriers and leading security details for high-ranking dignitaries, including the President of the United States. His experience training, leading, and mentoring service members has translated seamlessly into his work with students and athletes.
“Coach Stafford is truly a leader of men,” said Joel Fontenot-Amedee, BISD Athletic Director. “He is a winner who is also a kid magnet. He builds relationships with his student athletes at a very high level. He's worked for a few legends in the coaching world, which have also prepared him to lead our basketball program! He will be a great addition to our staff and we are excited to have him on our team.”
Coach Stafford and his wife, Sheryl, have been married for 35 years. They have five children and four grandchildren.
